Furs of the better grade

The restaurant sits in the Howard Couchman Furs building, built in 1870 in the Up Town part of North Vernon. Couchman started out trapping muskrats with his childhood friends and grew the business until thirteen women worked here, cutting and sewing furs into coats and scarves. For nearly eighty years local hunters, trappers and farmers came through the door to sell and trade.

Furs of the Better GradeThe words on every Couchman label

Stephanie Giddens opened Brick Street in 2017, out of a love of family, history, antiques and food. Her grandmother, Loretta Johnson, ran a restaurant in the 1950s, and Stephanie now follows in her footsteps. Look around the dining room and the front windows: vintage pieces everywhere, including Couchman furs.
